Because I’ve had an inordinate amount of time to think about what on earth I’m going to do next in Antigua, and because I’m feel positive that something good is going to happen soon, and also because it’s Monday and you’re might be experiencing an afternoon slump that requires caffeinated magic in a tiny ceramic cup, and finally, because I truly believe in the power of a good quote, here’s some inspiration for you <3
Yesterday there was a huge religious procession in Antigua, and lucky us, our street was on the route. This means there were multiple “carpets” on the street, made of colored sawdust, flowers, fresh fruit, etc. There are processions like this every Sunday until Easter week, when there will be daily processions and celebrations (can. not. wait. to see this)!
It’s considered an honor to take your turn carrying the massive floats through the streets…there must have been thousands of men in their purple robes yesterday, taking their turn. Most of them looked to be in a lot of pain when carrying the float…after all, that thing must be HEAVY! They move at an absolute glacial pace, and the processions can take up to 12 hours to complete!
We watched from our front window with a beer & the puppies 🙂
We bought some new freezer mugs last week so we could drink the coldest beer possible, and we finally tested them out yesterday. Frida was very into them as were we…worth it!
This morning I stopped by Good Hotel for a light breakfast and a coffee. Guatemalans, go here for breakfast (or stay too) next time you’re in Antigua!
What are you up to this week? We’re seeing a potentially promising spot in Antigua this afternoon, so more on that later if it goes well!
